A Liaison Turns Into Something Dangereuses

I figured, I would at least write a post on a scary film on Halloween night.
Well, at least the next day.

Do not let the cover fool you, this movie is full of twist, & turns, and eventually ends up a Dramatic Thriller.

When I seen the DVD cover,  I thought"Oh, yeah bring on the "romance".... Boy, was I wrong.......
"Match Point" is tale of lust with a love story in the mist of it.
Okay, I was right about the lust part.... But, not so much of the love part.

"Match Point" would scare the life out of you, before you even think about starting an affair.

The plot of this story is about Chris Wilton ( Jonathan Rhys Meyers) a recently retired tennis pro, and takes up a job as a tennis instructor.
Chris quickly starts up a friendship with Tom Hewett ( Matthew Goode) who lives a very privileged life.
In due time Chris meets the family. Tom's Sister "Chloe Hewett"; is smitten and falls madly in love with Chris.
Chris sees the benefit of being with Chloe; that's until he meets....Nola Rice ( Scarlett Johansson) who is engaged too Tom, and stunningly beautiful.
Chris is instantly attracted to Nola.
She's not a want, she's a need in his eyes

Nola is a struggling American actress. The Hewett family are not big fans of Nola, because of her choice of career; which turns into tension. Which leads to the end of Nola, and Tom's engagement.

Eventually, Chris & Nola get there private time together, and I must say it was pretty, pretty hot..

The benefits with being with Chloe, comes quickly; And, yet with a lot of baggage. Chris is pleased financially, but physically he ached for Nola.
It's pretty obvious that Chris will marry Chloe, out of convenience. Chris is going insane without Nola .
Looking for her everywhere. Eventually, faith brings them together, or the devil?
Albeit, this is when the affair begins.
Chris is so caught up between both women.
One he lust for, the other who benefits him.
This actually leads to a very, very bad ending.

In the mist of all this Nola is pregnant. Chris does not want Nola too have this child, that will harm his future with Chloe... Well, money wise.
So he does the unthinkable......I won't tell you the ending. However, I will say it is a big surprise.
Actually, more scary than anything.

Like I said before it will make you think before starting an affair!
A sophisticated thriller. Very beautifully shot, at the same time voraciously scary.
Yet very realistic film.
Scarlett Johansson was amazing beautiful in this movie! As always.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers was very handsome, and played this part very well.

"Woody Allen has claimed that Match Point “arguably may be the best film that I’ve made. This is strictly accidental, it just happened to come out right. You know, I try to make them all good, but some come out and some don’t. With this one everything seemed to come out right. The actors fell in, the photography fell in and the story clicked. I caught a lot of breaks”. The film was screened out of competition at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival
Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Chris Wilton
Scarlett Johansson as Nola Rice
Matthew Goode as Tom Hewett
Brian Cox as Alec Hewett
Penelope Wilton as Eleanor Hewett
Ewen Bremner as Inspector David
& James Nesbitt as Detective Banner

If you have not seen it already. watch the miniseries North & South by the BBC. It is based on the classic book of the same name written by Elizabeth Gaskell in the 1800's. It stars British actor Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe. It is the love story of John Thornton and Margaret Hale.

OUTSTANDING!!!! John Thornton gives Mr. Darcy a good run for his money.

Thanks, but I've already seen the movie, ;) and read the novel. It's one of my favorites also. The ending was the stunning.

Elizabeth Gaskell is one of the most insightful authors ever! She's amazing at breaking down every character to great detail. She's one of my favorite authors!
